Landfill environmental services to the City of Ballarat, including groundwater, landfill gas and risk assessment projects.

Landserv has assisted the City of Ballarat for more than a decade, to monitor, minimise and manage environmental risk from its operating and closed landfills.

Our Project Management of day-to-day environmental engineering challenges at the City’s operating landfill has included oversight of the following projects (some performed by others):

  • Investigations, procurement of a design and approval for leachate piping and a new pond to facilitate a trade waste disposal approach
  • Landfill cell design and approvals
  • Drainage design and construction
  • Responses and EPA communications for a pollution abatement notice for a closed landfill
  • Designing and installation of landfill gas monitoring bore networks around closed landfills

Landserv installed landfill gas monitoring bore networks across two closed former landfills. We then implemented annual monitoring programmes for several years, with each year culminating in a Landfill Gas Risk Assessment report.

More recently our closed landfill monitoring and risk assessment work extended across part of a proposed development area, for which we reported to the Victorian Planning Authority in support of Precinct Structure Planning.

Benefits:

  • Project management to deliver environmental engineering projects for an operating landfill
  • Landfill gas risk assessment of former landfills to ensure environmental safety, meeting the City’s General Environmental Duty
  • Environmental risk responses to EPA Victoria and to the Victorian Planning Authority for its strategic planning of new development precinct
