In this video Damien uses his experience working on the Bayside clean up project to describe the types of contaminated land issues common throughout Victoria. Contamination of land in Victoria is often the result of previous management practices before environmental regulations were enforced. It is estimated that there are as many as 10,000 contaminated sites across Victoria.
Some situations where contaminated land assessment and clean up are performed include:
- Due diligence when purchasing land or property
- As part of planning permit applications (especially when changes to zoning are needed)
- In response to Clean Up Notices or Pollution Abatement Notices (CUNs or PANs) issued by the EPA
